#1 Kansas wins at #14 Texas 80-68 . KU had a 22-0 nearly 11 minute first half run and led by 10 at halftime. KU would lead by as many as 19 before Texas creeped back within 8 with just over 3 minutes to go, but would get no closer. Marcus Morris led KU with 18, Xavier Henry and Sherron Collins each added 15. Jayhawks overcome 28 points from J'Covan Brown and 24 from Damion James. KU stays unbeaten at 9-0 in the Big 12, with three game lead in the loss column over three teams.
The Royals have agreed to 2010 Major League contracts with RHP Victor Marte and INFJeff Bianchi. Marte appeared in eight games with the Major League club in a September call up, and was 3-5 with a 2.24 ERA in relief in AA and AAA. Bianchi, the second round pick of the 2005 draft hit .308 between high A and AA last season.
The Chiefs have made their first cuts of the offseason, releasing LBs Weston Dacus and Justin Rogers. Dacus spent the entire 2009 season on injured reserve and played in eight games in 2008. Rogers was back and forth off of the Chiefs roster during this past season, seeing action in one game.
Kansas State guard Denis Clemente is the Big 12 Player of the Week. Clemente had 23 and 30 points respectively in wins on the road last week for KState at Nebraska and Iowa State. The Wildcats are 6-3 in the Big 12, in second place behind Kansas. The Wildcats are off until Saturday's home game against Colorado. KState is up to #9 in this week's poll.
Chiefs OL Brian Waters is named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year announced before Sunday's Super Bowl in Miami. The award is for both on and off field contributions. Waters was one of three finalists along with Detroit WR Mike Furrey and Washington LB London Fletcher.
