Bob Fescoe- Not A Good Monday

Well, that was a deflating weekend.  If it could go wrong it did go wrong.  All three local football teams lost.  The Chiefs looked awful against the Dolphins, Sporting KC’s fun season came to a close and MU dissed KC by jumping to the SEC.  It was one of those weekends that I don’t want to see again at least for a long long time.

The most disappointing defeat of the weekend had to be the Chiefs.  KC was riding high after four wins in a row and were coming off a Monday night thriller.  However, on Sunday, the Chiefs failed to show up for the game.  Right from the start it was obvious that the Chiefs were missing something.  It was almost like everyone was still hung over from Monday night.  The thing that stood out for me, was the fact that the team was not prepared.  Todd Haley did such a good job over the past month getting his team ready for games, but he failed on Sunday.

In his Monday press conference Haley took full blame for not having his team ready to go for the Dolphins.  He said if he had to do it over again he would have gone even easier on his players, even though last week he said he was taking it easy on his guys.

This team clearly has a tough time dealing with things that screw up their routine.  They have to find a way to respond better off Monday night games.  If they are going to continue to win, they will become one of the top teams in the league and will see a lot of Monday night games in the future.  It would be good to respond better than they did this past Sunday.

The Chiefs still very much control their own destiny and one horrible loss does not mean the season is finished.  KC still controls their own destiny but they need to get back on the winning track and it all begins on Sunday against the Broncos.

Earlier this month, I called all the remaining games "playoff-esque" for the Chiefs.  That feeling does not change.  They have to go into the game on Sunday and pound Denver and I believe they will do that.  Todd Haley will get it figured out this week and his team will come ready to play.  They will fight, they will scrap, they will battle.  Much like their head coach, they will not go down without a fight.

I think this loss can be spun into a positive.  The Chiefs need to take what happened on Sunday and put it behind them, but not too far behind them where they forget about it.  The loss has to be used as a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the year, and knowing their coach, I think it will be used just that way.
