When I was growing up, I was subjected to the music my father listened to as a child. See, my dad was a child of the 60’s and 70’s and REFUSED to acknowledge any music was made after 1979. He was a big believer that if it did not happen when he was in high school or college, well, then it just did not exist. This belief was true in music. To this day, my father sends me you tube videos every Friday night of songs he rocked out to back in his heyday. One song that I can recall vividly is “The End” by The Doors. I am glad that I have that song in my head today, because I think it signifies where we are with the Todd Haley experiment.
“This is the end, my only friend, the end.”
Even if Todd Haley is not 100% at fault for the demise of the Chiefs thru 2 weeks of the season, he will be held accountable and held as scape goat for the organization. Not one person is responsible for the way the team has played this year. Much like the product on the field, it is a total team effort. Scott Pioli assembled the roster, Clark Hunt signed off on it, Todd Haley allegedly got them ready to play this season and the 53 players are supposed to execute. So to blame Todd Haley 100% would be wrong, but hey, when you get outscored 89-10 in two games, some one has to take the bullets.
“Of our elaborate plans, the end.”
When Haley and Pioli arrived in KC, they had huge plans to bring titles to KC. It looked like it was headed that way last year, but that train derailed fast. Injuries have played into the poor play this year, but 5 personal foul penalties and 6 turnovers are unacceptable. Ask anyone in the NFL, they attribute that back to a lack of discipline and coaching. Turnovers and penalties are fixable errors.
“Desperately in need…of some…strangers hand In a…desperate land.”
Some stranger’s hand may be someone else running the Chiefs. Is it Bill Cowher or John Gruden? Is it Josh McDaniels who has the New England connection? Is it Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz who has a long relationship with Pioli? Is it someone else? What I do know, that if this losing continues much longer, it can’t be Haley.
Changes will happen. I am not sure there is one thing this team can do between now and Sunday to get a win. They are lost. Very lost.
And so is my dad. He continues to punch the dials on his radio and his music is gone. He wonders why his new car doesn’t have an 8-track.
Kinda like Haley wondering why his team doesn’t have the ability to win.
