Day one of Chiefs training camp is in the books. The good news, is that no one got hurt and all the guys who were injured last season are back and practicing at full speed. Jamal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry were all back in full force on Friday afternoon in St. Joe.
Charles split the first team carries with newly acquired running back Peyton Hillis while Moeaki was seen in a lot of 2 tight end sets with Kevin Boss. Berry patrolled center field like he never left and seemed like he would be ready to play if there was a game today.
The defense was clearly ahead of the offense on Friday, but that is to be expected in the early stages of camp. Cassel and Baldwin, who worked a lot in the off season together, misfired a few times. On other plays Cassel and the passing game looked sharp.
The only missing person of camp was Dwayne Bowe. He has still not reported to St. Joe and has allowed Jon Baldwin to take the number 1 job at wide receiver for now.
Coach Crennel was very upbeat and positive about his team. There are a lot of expectations on this version of the Chiefs. SI’s Jim Trotter was at camp and he said he picked the Chiefs to win the AFC West.
The first step to doing that was completed on Friday with the first practice in the books.
The Chiefs will have a walk thru and a practice again tomorrow.
All for now…..
