We finally have a labor agreement in place in the NFL and now the focus will go from off the field and court rooms to on the field and player moves. But the biggest question that remains is, will fans come back in droves or will they hold a grudge against the NFL? As I talk to people around town, it appears to me that fans will go right back to the NFL. Fans have a sick addiction to the NFL and as long as games were not missed, fans don’t care. However, the NFL needs to reward those fans.
Moving forward, the NFL should not charge for preseason games this season. Preseason games are a joke and no one takes them seriously. No one wants to play in them and fans don’t really want to watch the 3rd string guys play and have to pay the same price. This year the NFL and its member clubs should reward the fans. Pre season games should be refunded to those who already paid for them and tickets should be available on a first come, first served basis at the box office. It’s the least the NFL could do for the fans. Especially with all the missed off season training activities, the quality of play will not even be up to normal preseason standards this year.
Think of all the good will the NFL will earn if the preseason games are free. Dads, who normally can’t afford to take their sons to the game, could go and have a nice outing. Plus, once you get folks into the stadium, they would be able to spend money on concessions.
If the NFL does not want to give the preseason games away, then they should at least allow fans to park at the games for free. Fans have invested a lot of money over the years and its time for the NFL to give back. Free parking for two preseason games would go a long way. But I don’t expect the NFL to do that either. The NFL will do NOTHING for the fans, and that is sad. They can get away with it because they know we will come flocking back.
