Sports oftentimes do not make much sense. We continue to search for it, but sometimes I feel I need to stop. It's not like the real world, it's not like the real world, it's not like the real world.
Terrelle Pryor can play in the NFL .. just not for five weeks. The former Ohio State QB has been ruled eligible for the NFL supplemental draft but in a strange twist, Commissioner Roger Goodell is upholding the five game suspension Pryor would have served by the NCAA had he returned to Ohio State.
So the NFL doesn't have enough on it's plate that it actually will take the time to make judgements on what the NCAA rules. In a way it's noble for them to say they respect the NCAA's decision on Pryor and for once someone cannot escape an NCAA ruling by switching to a new job (ala coaches who break rules). But it's also overstepping their bounds except to say “it's our league and we'll do what we want.”
Heck Pryor probably could have transferred to another school and had a better chance to escape any penalties .. (cough, cough the Brown brothers at Kansas State). It seems you're only in trouble if you are a current player, not a former one. You might need to explain this to me as well. I'm glad for K-State, but I just don't get it.
I'm just hoping the next coach that's in trouble (see Pete Carroll) is held up to the same standards by the NFL when they bolt for the pros.
