Josh Klingler is the co-host and update anchor of "Fescoe in the Morning," heard weekdays 6a-9a on 610 Sports Radio. Perhaps the busiest sports personality in Kansas City, "Kling" also hosts pregame and postgame for KU Football and Men's Basketball broadcasts on the Jayhawk Radio Network and does morning sports updates on News Radio 980 KMBZ. He brings you his insight each Thursday on 610sports.com
A week off makes the brain scattered .. kind of like emptying the mail bag (that's old school) it's probably time to empty the noggin bag....
I can't get away from a possible OJ admission show with Oprah. That will be the most watched TV show ever, assuming we get enough heads up to find where the Oprah Channel is. We won't ever have to mention M*A*S*H again.
I caught myself double channeling soccer the other night. I had the DVR toggling between Sporting KC and the US national game, then realized the Royals were on and tuned in the radio. Two TV channels and 610 simultaneously. That's sick. Plus I dispatched the kids upstairs for their Scooby Doo fix.
As I type it's Day 100 of the NFL lockout. Seems to me ESPN is the only one that is counting. I'm guessing it is still Day 0 for most football fans, Day 1 will be any day lost after the scheduled September 8th opener.
People keep asking me about which of the three KU players in this year's draft will be the best pro and I'll admit that I have no clue. I am the worst at determining what college skills translate to the NBA. I always point to my astonishment that Kirk Hinrich was a lottery pick. I thought he was a terrific college player who would do nothing in the pros. (also see Vince Carter) I appreciate the college game, without the need to analyze how players abilities will equate in the NBA.
How about the Royals being the 6th paragraph in? You know it's almost July when … The more this goes on, the more I am concerned about Royals pitching long term and the less I am optimistic about 2012. Who can you count on on the mound? Bruce Chen? (but that brings trade rumors) Who do you fell has an upside? Danny Duffy, maaaaybe Luke Hochevar. The news isn't much better in the minors where reports are Mike Montgomery can't find the strike zone and John Lamb is done till further notice with TJ surgery. I'm worried. Gonna need some luck.
Finally, I went on my daily bike ride today. I passed three schools and several parks which housed at least six baseball fields, 10s of soccer fields and 10 tennis courts. There were a total of two kids playing tennis and three kids kicking around a soccer ball. (it was two girls and a teen boy with a Bieber haircut, so I imagine he wasn't there for the soccer) It's pretty sad. Makes me long for my childhood days where we'd play baseball all day, play tennis or go to soccer practice in the afternoon, then maybe get a pick up basketball game in the driveway going with the spotlight on because it was dark. I would do it still today, but it looks like I wouldn't be able to find anyone else to play.
