Time to play, what I think I know and what I'd like to know .. and my first week predictions for the 3 local Big 12 schools.
Kansas vs McNeese St. 6pm Saturday on 980am and 98.1fm KMBZ. (due to Royals baseball on 610 this week)
What I know – having watched the Jayhawks heavily in practice in the spring and on a more limited basis in the fall... they are better. Will that equate to a better record ??? Maybe not. But they pass the eye test much better than a season ago.
What I'd like to know – if the highly touted linebackers will indeed make a difference in what KU is looking for this year, speed and physicality. Also if the experienced offensive line can be heavily leaned upon to take pressure off developing QB Jordan Webb.
Week 1 – KU 31, McNeese 17
Missouri vs Miami-Ohio 11am Saturday 980am and 98.1fm KMBZ.
What I know – Gary Pinkel has a track record for Qbs. James Franklin takes over under center following 3 prior signal callers at Mizzou who are now in the NFL. The bar is high, but I have faith in Pinkel and his staff to keep churning out productive Qbs. I also think the defensive line will have a big year, a lot of teams would love Brad Madison and Jacquies Smith blowing off the edge.
What I'd like to know – if you can juggle around your entire offensive line and still be productive. The OL has been an injured mess this fall, can they all pull together and go in the right direction? Can Franklin live up to his predecessors?
Week 1 – MU 35, Miami Ohio 13
Kansas State vs Eastern Kentucky 6pm Saturday in Manhattan.
What I know – the Brown brothers are going to be heavily counted on. Arthur Brown is the face of a defense that has nowhere to go but up in 2011. He has to deliver. Bryce is in a RB battle, but didn't come home to not be the feature back.
What I'd like to know – should the Brown brothers be so heavily counted on? Can Collin Klein win over the K-State faithful? And can he throw? Klein played in 10 games last season and his most attempts were 6 vs Missouri.
Week 1 – KSU 38, Eastern Kentucky 10
I had a record of 28-5 last year in games involving the 3 locals, I rocked it...but as always no wagering.
