Royals Win, Draft & Yordano

-The Royals (25-32) topped Minnesota 7-3 to take the three game series.

-Wade Davis made the start and finished with a line of 5 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K on 107 pitches. The three runs were scored in the first inning, but all unearned thanks to a lead-off, two-base throwing error by Mike Moustakas (1-for-4). The runner that reached on Moose's error, Jamey Carroll, ended up scoring on a strikeout/wild pitch to Josh Willingham.

-Willingham reached first on the strikeout/wild pitch, and would score on Ryan Doumit's home run in the first.

-The Royals would chip away at the lead in the 2nd inning. Three straight singles from Billy Butler (2-for-4), Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain (2-for-4) would load the bases. Chris Getz drove a pair with a one-out single to left field.

-They tacked on another run in the 6th. Eric Hosmer (2-for-3) hit a one-out double to left field that nearly left the park, and would score after Salvador Perez (1-for-4) followed with a beautiful single between the first and second basemen.

-The final four runs were scored in the 8th. Alex Gordon (1-for-4) hit a lead-off double, and scored on a Hosmer single to right field. Perez reached first base on a fielder's choice, and would go first-to-home on a Butler double. Cain put the finishing touches on an offensive show (the way the Royals have hit, it's a show) by crushing his 2nd home run of the season. It was a no-doubt, 396 foot two-run shot to left field.

-Luke Hochevar pitched a perfect 6th inning. Tim Collins was tremendous in his two perfect innings of relief. Greg Holland allowed one hit in the 9th, but was never in any real trouble as he shut the door on a 7-3 Royals victory.

-In the minor leagues, outfielder Jarrod Dyson went 0-for-3 in his first rehab start with AAA-Omaha.

-Also in Omaha, stud pitching prospect Yordano Ventura made his Triple-A debut, and finished with a line of 5 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 BB, 6 K on 87 pitches, 52 for strikes.

-Finally, the first and second round of the MLB first-year player draft was Thursday night, and the Royals selected...

-Shortstop Hunter Dozier 8th overall out of Stephen F. Austin University. He's 6'4", 220-pounds. He'll turn 22 in August, and his .357 with 22 doubles, 10 homers and 37 RBI last year.

-Left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea out of Indiana State with the 34th pick. He's 6'5", 215 pounds.

-Left-handed pitcher Cody Reed out of NW Mississippi CC with the 46th pick. 6'5", 220 pounds.
