"Bulldog" Bob Fescoe is the host of Fescoe in the Morning, heard weekdays 6a-9a on 610 Sports Radio. The KU grad has been a voice in the Kansas City sports scene for the better part of the last decade and brings his passion to the table with some bite every weekday morning.
The full blown practice was early in the day and the walk thru closed out the day in St. Joe. A few things to take away from the morning practice in St. Joe. First, Matt Cassel looked a little off target. A number of times, receivers had to come back to the ball or make adjustments on errant passes. On two occasions, Dwayne Bowe made some outstanding adjustments to come down with balls that were no where near they needed to be thrown.
Secondly, the Chiefs need a back up quarterback. Both guys they have behind Cassel have never started an NFL game. I would feel a lot better about the team with a veteran presence backing up Matt. We saw how awful it was last year when Cassel had the surgery and missed a game.
You always have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Now, the Chiefs are not preparing for the worst. There is still a lot of time left before the opener on September 11th, but in the mean time, the Chiefs need to be looking at other options at that spot. Third, during the 11 on 11 portion of practice, Tyson Jackson was not on the field….with any of the defensive units. Todd Haley alluded to the fact that something may be up with Jackson but would not go into detail. Instead, he said that different guys have different schedules in practice. Speaking of that, it was good to see Jon Baldwin back at it. A day after sitting out, he looked to be about full speed. Glenn Dorsey did most of the drills today, but when 11 on 11 rolled around, he was riding the bike, so he is not 100 percent just yet.
Tamba Hali finally talked to the media. He thanked the Hunts, yes he said the Hunts, for the new deal and said he wanted a long term contract with Kansas City so he pressured his agents to get it done.
The first depth chart of the year was released, and Thomas Jones was listed as the starter and Jamaal Charles as the back up running back. Fans are upset, but the depth chart is meaningless. Charles will get his carries this year, I promise you!
