And Here's Why

Since the 2017 schedule came out last April, anyone that listens to our show, Fescoe in the Morning, knows that I have been saying Super Bowl or bust for the Chiefs.  Even when they were going thru a 1-6 patch I still believed that this was a Super Bowl team.  Now, on the eve of the playoffs, the Chiefs are going to Minnesota and here are a few reasons why.

1.  They are playing great football at the right time- Teams that have success in January usually play well in December.  The Chiefs played some of their best football in the year's final month.  They found their offensive groove and the defense came up with some big time games.

2.  Weapons- We've known for a few months now that the Chiefs have a ton of offensive weapons.  Coordinator Matt Nagy has figured out how to use them. Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt are the big 3 but Albert Wilson can beat you and so can Alex Smith.  He's shown he can lead his team to points from ANYWHERE on the field.

3.  They play smart football- The Chiefs don't beat themselves.  EVER.  In the playoffs its important to protect the football and get takeaways.  The Chiefs have protected it all season long and in the last 3 games they became ball hawks taking it away 9 times before the trip to Denver.  If they stay on the plus side of the turnover ratio they will be hard to beat in the playoffs.

4.  Andy Reid- For as much as he has his faults, he is still a steady force on the sidelines and a guy who puts together great game plans.  His veteran leadership will be key for this team as they make a run to Minnesota.

5. The end is near- Many of the names that we have become familiar with could be playing their last games in KC.  They have a sense of urgency greater than anyone else in the NFL.  From Alex Smith to Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali, they know their days playing for our town's team could be ending after this season.  Wouldn't it be sweet to go out on top?

This season will not be defined by September, October, November or December, that is all in the past.  It will be defined by what happens in January.  Legacies are created in the post season.  Perceptions are created and teams are defined by what they do over the next month.  Let's hope this is a long run and one that we can all celebrate together in Minnesota in February!  Go Chiefs!
