2017 Running Backs For The Draft--Are the Chiefs Interested?

Where Do They Look?

The running problem for the Chiefs.  Last year the Chiefs finished 15th in the NFL in rushing averaging 4.2 yards per carry.  This down from the previous year when the Chiefs were 6th in the NFL in rushing.

Spencer Ware led all rushers with 921 yards followed by Charcandrick West with 293.  Tyreek Hill by playing both a receiver and a rusher added in 267 yards rushing.  One of the problems was Alex Smith and his lack of rushing yards as he only had 134 yards rushing down from 2015 when he had 408 yards rushing good enough for 4th in the NFL

The Chiefs have invested in their offensive line with Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz at tackle.  They are still getting Parker Ehinger on his rookie contract as well as Mitch Morse.  The recently gave guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff 5 year contract extension.  So the investment in the line has been set now it's up to the runners to produce.

Chiefs need to get a QB in the 1st round as this is their opportunity however some think they will go running back if they do here are some choices.   I do not want to see the Chiefs get a running back in the first round.  Heck Charcandrick West was not drafted, Spencer Ware was a 6th round pick and the NFL is full of accomplished runners that weren't first rounders.  The Chiefs do have 4 picks in the top 104 and they should address the running back position in one of those picks. Andy Reid has hinted that Tyreek Hill will go many more touches than last year and be more part of the offense and should in my opinion be able to easily hit 500 yards.  The commitment has been made to the offensive line but they need someone to make them look good.

Let's look at some of the running backs in the draft that should be 1st rounders including a McShay surprise for the 1st round for the #Chiefs:

Leonard Fournett--most mocks have him gone in the top 10

Dalvin Cook-Most mocks have in the top 20 but could slide to Chiefs

Christian McCaffrey---most mocks have him going top 20

Alvin Kamara--this was a surprise as Todd McShay had him going to the Chiefs in his newest mock draft--Kamara had reshirted at Alabama and the transferred to Tennessee where he was in a committe situation.
