The Rookie Gunslinger Wins His NFL Debut

FACT: Patrick Mahomes is undefeated as a starting QB in the NFL, and the first QB the Chiefs drafted to win a game for the Chiefs since 1987…. nice to get rid of that horrid stat.

Mahomes won his debut at Denver 27-24.

I was incredibly excited to see what Patrick Mahomes would bring to the table. Yes, it’s a week 17 game that doesn’t really matter. Yes, he has a center who can’t snap him the ball and a makeshift offensive line. Yes, he has a WR corps full of pass-dropping misfits. With all of that kept in mind, we got to see one heck of a show!

We saw the best of Patrick Mahomes…

The downside of a 22-year-old gunslinger…

and the remarkable….

Then, for the cherry on top, Andy Reid decides to replace Mahomes with Tyler Bray, and it was a disaster. After the Broncos came back to tie the game, Andy put Patrick Mahomes back in, and the human highlight reel continued.

Mahomes led the Chiefs on a game-winning drive, setting up Harrison Butker for the FG as time ran out.

This game wasn’t about the present, it was about getting a glimpse of what I believe will be a very bright future in Kansas City.

Alex Smith will take the team back over as the Chiefs head into the AFC playoffs, but if something were to happen next week and Mahomes had to come in, I think I speak for most Chiefs fans when I say I have confidence in the backup to hold down the fort.

I also think I speak for most Chiefs fans when I say I never want to see Tyler Bray take another snap in my entire life.
