Who We Think The Chiefs Should Draft

Bob Fescoe

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

Watson is the perfect quarterback not just for Andy Reid, but for the NFL.  He was a winner in college, he starred on the big stage and he graduated in 3.5 years. He can accomplish anything and is a true leader. He can also make plays with his legs and arm which Reid loves.

Mike Welch

Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama

Foster is an absolute beast on the field who loves marijuana off the field. His diluted drug test could help him fall to Kansas City. Luckily, the Chiefs are smart enough to not pass on the next Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher because he might like a little weed.

Josh Klingler

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

I don't think they'll be able to get Deshaun Watson, so I'm taking the guy with some "Brett Favre" in him.  It's time for a gunslinger to change the Chiefs O, eventually.

Henry Lake

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

They have several needs to fill. Running back, middle linebacker, cornerback, and quarterback.  But of the positions that I just rattled off, quarterback is definitely the position that I'm most focused on and want to see the Chiefs address.

Take Deshaun Watson, the championship winning quarterback from Clemson University.  He seems to make all the right decisions at the position.  He always plays better when the pressure is on. They say that he doesn't have the strongest arm in this year's draft, but that doesn't bother me.  He's athletic, good speed, and elusive enough to make plays with his feet.  I just feel that his best days are ahead of him.  And with someone like Andy Reid whose had success with quarterbacks, he could probably flourish.

Jay Binkley

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

I am staying with Patrick Mahomes even though I'm worried about the Texans taking him at #25.  Trade up?  They might have to.  Rumors from him being the first QB taken to 4th QB taken are rampant.  It's hard to get a good feel on when he'll go but there's a chance he could be there when the Chiefs pick.  I could also see them packaging some of their 10 picks to move up.  The team to watch is the Texans picking at 25, and hope they don't take Mahomes as he recently had a good visit. Lance Zierlein did his mock on NFL Network and had the Chiefs going with Mahomes and the Texans with Watson.

Carrington Harrison

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

The time is now.

With the 27th overall pick in this year’s Draft, it’s time for the Chiefs to invest in a quarterback. Deshaun Watson makes so much sense for this team.

Face it, Alex Smith is going to be the QB for the 2017 season and that’s perfectly fine. That’s what’s best for this organization. Despite his limitations, Alex Smith for next year is the best possible QB for this team. He knows the system, knows the offense and the team can clearly win with him.

Outside of Arizona, there’s no team that’s better equipped to draft a QB than Kansas City. No pressure to start from Day 1, essentially a “redshirt” year to learn, dynamic playmakers, key investments on the OL and we’ll see who is at running back but I expect the Chiefs to take one but it’s a great situation to be drafted into.

Deshaun Watson. Make it happen.

Brad Fanning

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

I want Deshaun Watson.  Bad.  Worse than bad.  He needs to be a Chief.  Period.  That’s it and that’s all.

Here’s why….

I’m a big believer of overlapping.  It started with pets.  When one is about to pass on, get another and the pain won’t seem as bad when Sparky dies.

The Chiefs are getting close to having to put Alex Smith down.  He’s got 2-years left on his contract. It’s time to overlap and get another quarterback and I want it to be Clemson’s Watson.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew once said, and I’m paraphrasing here, that 75% of playing quarterback in the NFL is about the intangibles.

Watson has mega intangibles.  He shredded a very good Ohio State defense in the Fiesta Bowl 31-0.  He was pile driven into the turf by the Alabama defense in the national title game and his Tigers squad was down 14-0 early to the biggest, baddest football factory on the planet. He led his team back to win the game 35-31.

He’s a winner and he has the physical tools to fit perfectly into an Andy Reid offense.  His arm is strong enough, he can kill you with his speed and he has the intangibles.  He’s tougher than and American made piece of steel.

It’s time to get a new dog before the old one passes on.  Overlap.  Draft a quarterback. Get a new puppy named Watson and prepare for life when our old dog is about to pass on.

Ron "The Show" Hughley

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

No surprise here, it appears Deshaun Watson could be special (in right situation).  This is the most important draft for the Chiefs in my lifetime, and it appears this is the draft where they will take a real shot at drafting their franchise QB.  If that's the case, I don't care what it takes, you go get him.  He's one of the most accomplished QB's to come out in years and can make all the throws along with being mobile.  Most important he's unafraid of the big moment and he makes plays.  The fit with Andy Reid is perfect.
