For many Kansas City fans, there isn’t much they don’t know about former Chiefs great and future hall-of-famer Tony Gonzalez.

Practically everyone can tell you he played basketball in college. Most know of his passion for fitness and healthy eating. But there is one thing you might not know about the man who ranks second all-time in career receptions behind only Jerry Rice. Tony Gonzalez loves craft beer.

This came to my attention the other night when I saw this tweet from Jeremy Danner, Ambassador Brewer for Boulevard Brewing Company

Rafi Chaudry, co-owner of KC’s Torn Label Brewing Company, also noted Gonzalez’s love and knowledge of craft beer in a response to Danner:

As a life-long Chiefs fan, I was pretty surprised that I had never known this fact about the guy I watched dunk on the goalposts at Arrowhead for over a decade. A little more research led me to this ESPN E:60 piece on Gonzalez from 2013. Skip to the 10 minute mark to hear Tony G release his inner beer-nerd.

Tony G loves beer so much someone even named a beer after him! Having a menu item named after you is a level of awesomeness not many of us achieve. Not sure about the name “Fat Dog 88”, but I wouldn’t complain.

So it turns out that we're not much different than a future hall-of-famer, at least when it comes to enjoying a tasty brew. Cheers!

You have heard Jeremy Danner and Rafi Chaudry on Fescoe in the Morning during “Beers With The Boys”.
