Kling's Kwips - a sports anchor's bout with cynicism

Big props to the NY Giants.   No this isn't a belated take on the Super Bowl.   But big ups to the Giants for breaking up the Boston tri-fecta.    With the NBA title now residing in Beantown, the Giants spoiling the New England Patriots unbeaten run is good for all of us.   How obnoxious would a town be with the reigning titleists in baseball, football and basketball?     I couldn't stand Red Sox nation after the 1st title, think of how much more annoying the Nor-easters would be with every major title.   How 'bout them apples?

Once again, I buck the trend.  I'm not a follower but an individually minded sports fan.   I don't buckle to pressure to conform. ...   I didn't watch golf again!    I had no desire to watch the US Open, even with Tiger in the mix.  If I choose to waste 5 1/2 hours of my life, I'll be out playing myself.    At least with a playoff I'll have another day to vaguely pay attention.    The sad thing is that I actually watched more of Euro 2008 than the US Open.

The Royals continue to play well against the National League.   I know that I am not the only one who really, really wanted the Royals to have moved to the NL when they had the chance.     And hey, even if the pitchers bat, it's still better than Tony Pena right?

KU's Mario Chalmers is staying in the NBA draft June 26th.   We'll see if he sneaks into the 1st round and gets a guarenteed deal.   Tough call.   There's no job security in a 2nd round selection, but there's no way that he ever lives up to "The Shot" if he would have returned to Lawrence.    Like MJ should have done against Utah, Chalmers walks away with his follow through still up in the air.
