A few games don’t make a season, but a few games can help define who you are as a football team.

Three Games Which Will Define the Chiefs’ Season:

#3. Week 1 @ Patriots (Sept. 7, 7:30pm CT)

First game of the season in the NFL against the defending Super Bowl Champions. It doesn’t get bigger than this as far as the regular season goes. The entire national narrative surrounding the Chiefs will be set in week one, and if they can find a way to beat the Patriots in New England, the belief in this team from a local and national level will explode.

#2. Week 8 vs. Broncos (Oct. 30, 7:30pm CT)

The Broncos in prime time always seem to help define the Chiefs season. In 2014, it was the disaster fumble from Jamaal Charles, who is now ironically a Bronco. In 2016, the Chiefs beat the Broncos on an OT Bank-Shot Field Goal after a 2-point conversion was inexplicably caught by Demetrius Harris. It’s always a slobber-knocker (h/t Jim Ross), and it’s always going to help define the entire Chiefs season.

#1. Week 7 @ Raiders (Oct. 19, 7:25pm CT)

Owning the AFC West is going to be all about owning the Raiders. The Chiefs won the division in 2016 by a tie breaker. Everybody wants to point out Derek Carr going down, and for good reason, but Carr had the opportunity to beat the Chiefs and couldn’t do it… twice. If KC wants to continue to hold their throne atop the AFC West, dominating Oakland will be how they get it done. Since this game against the Raiders is on the road and in prime time, it is the game that will define the Chiefs’ season.

Notice all three games are in the front-half of the season. The Chiefs have a very interesting schedule this season because it is incredibly hard before their bye in Week 10. Right before the bye week, the Chiefs have a five-game stretch nightmares are made of (@ Hou, vs. Pit, @ Oak, vs. Den, @ Dal) against 4 playoff teams and a Broncos squad that went 8-8 last year and will always be a tough win, even at Arrowhead in primetime.

Look for the Chiefs to struggle (strug-a-ling) early, but finish strong as their schedule gets much easier after the bye.
